Implants are the closest you can get to natural teeth. They are permanent replacement teeth that attach to your jaw, making them so much more stable than dentures. An implant acts like the root of your original tooth, and a replacement crown is securely attached to it.
Enjoy eating like you used to – and smiling wide, and often – when those good feelings take over! Best of all … implants look and feel like natural teeth.
Here’s a huge implant advantage over other tooth-replacement techniques. After you lose a tooth, the bone shrinks and weakens. For most people, the amount of bone loss isn’t too extreme and it doesn’t affect the foundation for a denture. But some patients will experience problems due to shrinking bone, resulting in poor-fitting dentures. That means difficulty biting and chewing. It can also mean gum pain and speech difficulties. So … while a denture or bridge restores a lot of the form and function of missing teeth, it doesn’t support the gumline the way implants do.
Implants aren’t for everyone. Healthy gums and adequate bone are a prerequisite. It’s also a “must” that you agree to look after them with a good daily oral hygiene routine and regular checkups. They’re both essential for a successful outcome.
